How to Back Up Your Kajabi Courses

To back up a Kajabi course, you need to save every video, lesson text and downloadable file, and keep them in the same order you built them. This guide covers what Kajabi gives you on its own, why the manual route gets slow, and the fastest way to save everything to Google Drive or your computer.

That last row is what the Kajabi Course Backup Tool does.

The short answer: Kajabi lets you export a course template and download videos one at a time, but it doesn't give you one button that saves a whole course, with its videos, lesson text and files, to your computer. For that you either work lesson by lesson, or use a backup tool that scans your courses and saves them in bulk to Google Drive or your computer.

Why back up your Kajabi courses

Your courses are likely the most valuable thing your business owns. Everything else can be rebuilt faster than a library of recorded lessons.

You don't control the platform

Prices, plans and features change, and accounts can be limited or closed.

Accidents happen

A deleted lesson or product is easy to do and hard to undo.

You may want to move

Switching platforms is much easier when you already hold every file in an organized folder.

Raw files get lost

Many creators upload a video and delete the original. Your Kajabi library can end up as the only copy.

A backup takes an afternoon. Rebuilding a course from scratch takes months.

What Kajabi lets you export on its own

Kajabi's help center recommends keeping copies of your work outside Kajabi. It gives you a few tools for part of that.

Available

Product templates

Export a course as a template and reload it later to recreate the product inside Kajabi.

Available

Individual videos

Open a lesson, use Video Actions under the player, and choose Download Video. One video at a time.

Available

Contacts

Your contact list can be exported, and Kajabi advises keeping your own copies of your uploads.

The gap: no single export for the whole course

There's no one export that saves a course's videos, lesson text and attachments to your computer as a folder you can open without Kajabi. A template export is for restoring inside Kajabi, and video downloads are per video. That gap is why creators end up doing it by hand.

The manual way, and where it breaks down

You can back up a course by hand. For a small course with a handful of lessons, it's a reasonable approach. The problem is scale: each lesson means several clicks and a rename, so a course with dozens of lessons turns into hours of repetitive work, and across several courses it's easy to miss a lesson or end up with files you can't match back to their place.

Doing it by hand, per lesson

  1. Open the lesson in your Kajabi admin.
  2. Download the video from Video Actions, or find your original upload.
  3. Copy the lesson text into a document.
  4. Download each attachment, such as PDFs and worksheets.
  5. Rename it and sort it into the right folder.
  6. Repeat for every lesson in every course.

The faster way: back up with a Chrome extension

The Kajabi Course Backup Tool is built for the gap Kajabi leaves. It scans your Kajabi account, lists your courses and lessons, and saves them in bulk, so you don't open each lesson yourself.

5

Back up

Where should you save your backup?

Pick one location, and ideally keep a second copy of anything you can't replace. The tool is designed so files go straight to your Drive or your computer, not through our servers.

Google Drive

Easy to share with a team, reachable from any device, and doesn't fill up your hard drive. Check that your Drive has enough free space for your videos first.

Your computer

A full local copy that doesn't depend on any cloud account. Good if you have the disk space, and best paired with an external drive.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about backing up Kajabi courses with the tool.

Can I back up all my Kajabi courses at once?

Yes. The extension scans your account and lists every course it finds, so you can back up several courses in one run instead of repeating the work per course.

What if the backup stops partway through?

You can resume it. The backup picks up where it stopped, so you don't start over after a closed browser or a dropped connection.

Does it work with large video files?

Yes, and you can see the size of each lesson before you start, so you can check that your Drive or disk has enough room.

Is it a subscription?

No. It's a one-time payment of $150 and includes one Kajabi connection. If you have another Kajabi account to back up, you can add an extra connection for a one-time $70.

How often should I back up my courses?

Back up whenever you finish a major update or add new lessons. Many creators also run a full backup every few months.
